4. How long will my tax refund take?
Tax refunds can take anywhere from 5 to 14 days from date of lodging.
This will also depend on any debts that you may have with other government departments (Child Support Agency etc).

5. Can I claim travel for my work?
You can claim travel if you use your car during working hours to pick up stock or deliver goods or go to the bank.
You can not claim for the trip to work and home again.
If you travel to a second job, without going home first, you can claim the mileage and if you are studying and travel to the University or other place of learning you can claim that mileage too.

6. I have received a dividend statement, do I need to declare this as income?
Dividend statements are income and as with bank interest must be declared.

7. Can I claim Motor Vehicle running expenses?
If you travel over 5,000kms for work related purposes in the tax year and have kept a log book with all of your expenses in it you can claim your motor vehicle and running expenses.
The maximum claim without a log book is 5,000 kms, but for your own benefit it is wise to keep details on where you have been and how far you have traveled.

8. Can I claim a tax deduction for my wife and my children?
Either partner can claim for a spouse, if the spouse has little income or has not worked for the financial year, also either spouse can claim the children for the zone rebate.

9. Can I claim a tax deduction for my work uniform?
A tax deduction for a work uniform can be claimed if it has the company logo on it.
You can claim the cost of purchase and the cost of washing.

10. What tax deductions can I claim if I'm studying?
There are many tax deductions for study.
It is very important to keep all of your receipts if they relate to the study you are undertaking.
Remember you cannot claim HECS fees but you can claim books, photocopying, travel and student union fees, along with many other, but you will need receipts.
Also, most importantly the study you are undertaking must relate to the occupation in which you are currently employed.
